Our good friend Bill Dykstra approached Dave and I at church a month or so ago with an offer we couldn't resist! Roseland Christian School was having an "Amazing Asia" festival and Bill's fifth grade class chose India to study and celebrate. Bill had a feeling that we still have a thing for good old Hindustan and asked for our help. What gave it away? The kurtas we still periodically wear? The stories about the subcontinent that we sometimes meander into? The occasional Hindi "aacha" or "teek hai" that we let slip?
Tuesday afternoon we did a little slideshow/talk for the fifth graders and we've been feeding Bill some India ideas for a few weeks. Friday was the big event and it was a success! Dave helped the kids write their names with devanagari script and he was in charge of the "cricket corner" where he taught kids a few batting/bowling basics. I spent my time between wrapping girls in saris, placings bindis on foreheads, and serving kurkure, bhel puri, and masala chai. We were impressed with the "mehndi" hand painting, color by number rangoli designs and cultural posters that the kids came up with! We miss this incredible country and loved the chance to celebrate it again!

| I almost exhausted my sari collection on these ladies (two more are missing from the photo!). They complained about how dangerous these things are to walk around in, but I think they had a great time modeling their Indian outfits. |

| This week, we've enjoyed the sun and the rain and we've been digging for creatures almost every night. We're pretty great at finding worms and millipedes! |

| RECYCLE day! We JUST got our new blue bin this week... a little Earth Day gift from Mayor Rahm! This is the first time our neighborhood has ever had curbside recycling. |
