Rain, Rain, Go Away!

It was a wet week here in Chicagoland. Monday, Molly and I did a little shoe shopping and bought some new rain boots just in time for the flood. It rained and rained and rained! The highway closest to our house was shut down for a couple of days due to flooding and lots of schools were closed for a day. Luckily the worst flooding at our house was a tiny trickle of water into the basement... Molly's kitchen spills were probably worse that that!  With the rain, we found time to make some coffee filter umbrellas and cotton ball rain clouds. Molly made good use of the new boots in the puddles, and it even dried up enough this weekend to haul out the old sandbox. When we got out the sand toys, Molly told me she hadn't played with those in "like two years!" Another fun phrase lately - "spankin brand" as in, "Look! Mama got some new spankin brand syrup for our pancakes!" Funny how words get twisted around!
This weekend, we were also treated to a yummy breakfast with Grammy and her friends- Mom Francis was in Chicago reuniting with her college buddies. We crashed at Nana and Papi's on and off during our dropping off and picking up of Dave at the airport. Stay tuned for a special report about Dave's academic dress conference in New York! He had a great time rubbing shoulders with the Burgon Society was even officially "hooded"!

... the (almost) finished product! Handles to be added later.

This girl LOVES glue. She was great with the cotton ball clouds!

Dave got Molly and I matching NY tees!

What a fashionista! Those strawberry shades look so classy with the statue of liberty hat and the chin drool!

The sandbox is outside again! Hooray for spring!
