The Sweet Life

One of the fun highlights of this past week was Halloween for Molly. We're pretty low key about the holiday, but we did make Molly her robot costume and hit 8 or 10 houses on our block for trick-or-treating. She was pretty hilarious in the robot suit. It was a little hard to walk around in and we had to stick one arm into the box and carry her up and down all the steps in our neighborhood. I guess people aren't quite so used to such an incredible costume... they couldn't quite figure out what Molly was... ipod? cd player? radio? remote control? vending machine? Maybe if Molly had been a little louder with her "bee bop bo bop" noises, they would have figured it out.  I think Molly liked handing out candy as much as she liked receiving it. She kept saying trick or treat as she was handing out candy instead of when she was asking for it at other homes... we have some kinks to get worked out before next year.

One of my devotions from this week was based on Matthew 10:42... "And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

This idea of a cup of cold water hit me later in the week when Molly came down with a bad cold. She had a really rough time sleeping and the only thing I could do to help her out was bring her a cup of cold water to help her crying and coughing calm down. What a contrast to trick or treating! In this world, we're all demanding what we feel we are due. In God's kingdom, though, we're handing out sips of refreshment, whether or not it is asked for. One of the challenges in being a stay-at-home mom is remembering that while it seems I'm not out there fighting the injustices of the world, I'm still following God's call to give cold cups of water, sometimes even literal sippy cups of water. And offering those little sips can make all the difference in the world.

The helmet (a fine creation made from a milk jug) wasn't the most comfortable hat. It only  made it around 1/4 of the block or so.

This picture reminds me of that episode from the Cosby show where Cliff is picking up Rudy while she's in her snowpants. Molly was pretty compliant when being hauled up and down the steps!

Wednesday night is my 1st and 2nd grade class at family night at church. We talked about how as Christians, we're like pumpkins. God scoops out the yucky bits of our lives and fills us with his light!

How many hands can you fit in one pumpkin?

Not to be outdone by Jimmy and Mike, Molly and Dave made their own version of a Duplo mask! This was part of the morning when I was gone with some meetings. Molly and Dave stayed in their pajamas until around 3 pm. That's living!
